Meet The Team

We pride ourselves on being a committed and collaborative team, who work closely with our clients to achieve outstanding results

Let’s start the conversation…

Managing Director of Pragmatic Maintenance ad Reliability.
Managing Director

Andy Mellor B.Eng. MSc. ACGI

My condition monitoring journey as a sponsored student with British Steel research in 1986. From 1989 to 1993 I was a research engineer, evaluating and applying monitoring technologies in the UK steel industry.

Moving to Teesside Works in 1994 I implemented vibration monitoring across all departments of the works and allied sites. In 1998 I joined AV Technology. After spending a year at Humber refinery as interim technical specialist, where I managed the reinstatement of a centralised monitoring team, I became a Senior Consultant, diagnosing problems with and providing in-situ balancing services for offshore Oil and Gas compressors and generation sets, as well as troubleshooting a variety of onshore machinery.

Leaving AVT in 2010, I founded Pragmatic Maintenance and Reliability, initially working on a freelance basis, solving vibration problems in the UK North Sea, offshore West Africa, and the Arabian Gulf, leading the implementation of a condition monitoring programmme across the Seafield and Almond Valley sewage works and balancing one of the 787 tonne flywheel generators at the UKAEA’s Culham JET Fusion site.

I am ISO certified Cat IV Vibration analyst and have extensive practical experience in thermography, oil analysis, passive ultrasound, acoustic emission, and motor current signature analysis.

Director

Susan Mellor BSc. MSc. Phd

After completing a doctorate in geology with the University of Greenwich I worked as a part-time lecturer for the University of Leeds before moving to Cheshire and starting a family. I set up SHM Energy Assessment in 2007 and closed it in 2011 after setting up Pragmatic with Andy Mellor late in 2010.

I have had many roles at Pragmatic including administration, accounts, equipment sourcing and maintenance. I always enjoy a challenge and we have had many over the last 13 years.

When not at work I enjoy walking our two rescue dogs, walking, art, and sailing.

Operational Manager

Dan Fuller B.Eng.

I graduated from Loughborough University in 2007 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a diploma of industrial studies. I joined Cemex's Rugby Cement plant as a Reliability Technician in a graduate role, which is where I first got stuck into predictive maintenance.

I went on to spend some time working overseas in Australia, predominantly condition monitoring in mining projects, and continued working within the reliability sector when returning to the UK in 2013. I joined Pragmatic in July 2018 and I manage a reliability and lubrication programme at INEOS Compounds where Pragmatic have been working together with their maintenance team since 2016.

Reliability Engineer

Laurence Maisonneuve B.Eng. M.Sc.

After studying electronics and industrial computing at the University of St Etienne in 1989, France, I pursued my studies and graduated from Coventry University with a degree in combined engineering, followed by a Master's in Telecommunication and IT in Birmingham.

Those who know me, call me an all-rounder. I worked for four years in France in industrial maintenance doing bespoke design and repairs and transitioned to project management for video projects and automatic Incident detection on motorways.

I came back to the UK in 1996 and enjoyed design and PLC programming for bollard projects in London at APT, SCADA, and PLC software for a lime kiln in beautiful Buxton at RMC Aggregates, and combined test of traction system for trains at ALSTOM transport. While raising my 2 boys, I worked part-time for a consultancy in Education but also translating technical French papers and teaching French to the local preschoolers.

After joining Pragmatic in 2015 I have extended my expertise as a reliability engineer – I am now VA3 certified, and I love spectrum analysis! I am also leading the development of wireless sensor systems within Pragmatic.

Lubrication Technician and Trainee Condition Monitoring Engineer

Nathan Brown

My role here at Pragmatic is as a Trainee Condition Monitoring Engineer and a Lubrication Technician. I’m also studying a level 4 mechanical engineering apprenticeship, (lead maintenance technician). The collaborative atmosphere at Pragmatic has been instrumental in my development and growth, exposing me to hands-on knowledge that goes beyond textbooks! I look forward to the continued evolution of my skills and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.
PA / Marketing Manager

Hazel Daniels

I joined Pragmatic in October 2023 having worked in multiple industry sectors as a PA and then developing my skills and knowledge within various Marketing positions both within the UK and Australia. Every day is different at Pragmatic, which is something I enjoy, and I feel honoured to work as part of a dedicated and highly experienced team.
