Meet The Team

We pride ourselves on being a committed and collaborative team, who work closely with our clients to achieve outstanding results

Let’s start the conversation…

Managing Director of Pragmatic Maintenance ad Reliability.
Managing Director

Andy Mellor B.Eng. MSc. ACGI

My journey in condition monitoring began in 1986 as a sponsored student with British Steel Research. From 1989 to 1993, I worked as a research engineer, evaluating and applying monitoring technologies across the UK steel industry.
In 1994, I moved to Teesside Works, where I implemented vibration monitoring across all departments and allied sites. Four years later, I joined AV Technology. During my time there, I spent a year at Humber Refinery as interim technical specialist, reinstating a centralised monitoring team. I later became Senior Consultant, diagnosing complex machinery problems, delivering in-situ balancing services for offshore Oil & Gas compressors and generation sets, and troubleshooting a wide range of onshore equipment.
In 2010, I founded Pragmatic Maintenance and Reliability Ltd, initially working freelance. My projects have included solving vibration issues in the UK North Sea, offshore West Africa, and the Arabian Gulf; leading the rollout of a condition monitoring programme at Seafield and Almond Valley sewage works; and balancing a 787-tonne flywheel generator at the UKAEA’s Culham JET Fusion site.
I am an ISO-certified Category IV Vibration Analyst with extensive hands-on expertise in thermography, oil analysis, passive ultrasound, acoustic emission, and motor current signature analysis.
Director

Susan Mellor BSc. MSc. Phd

After completing a doctorate in geology with the University of Greenwich I worked as a part-time lecturer for the University of Leeds before moving to Cheshire and starting a family. I set up SHM Energy Assessment in 2007 and closed it in 2011 after setting up Pragmatic with Andy Mellor late in 2010.

I have had many roles at Pragmatic including administration, accounts, equipment sourcing and maintenance. I always enjoy a challenge and we have had many over the last 13 years.

When not at work I enjoy walking our two rescue dogs, walking, art, and sailing.
